As soon as patient wakes up, ave patient brush teeth & rinse them or gargle w/ water before collection. Go outside or open a window before collection.
Take a very deep breath and hold for 5 seconds. Slowly breathe out. Take another deep breath and cough hard until sputum comes up into your mouth. Spit sputum into the plastic cup until it reaches 5 ml (atleast 1 teaspoon of sputum not saliva). CLose cap tightly and label.
