CLINICAL USE
Used to help diagnose and monitor conditions that affect balance of fluids electrolytes and acidity the body.
Elevated in hypercalcemia and hypokalemia, liver diseases, cardiac failure, pregnancy, burns, dehydration, cushing’s syndrome and diabetic acidosis
Decreased in vomiting and diarrhea, inappropriate use of diuretics, nephrotic syndrome, hypoproteinemia, primary and secondary adrenocortical insufficiency and congestive heart failure.
